Edgar de Melo
Documentary filmmaker and photographer.
I’m drawn to real stories: finding them, researching them and working out the best way to tell them. I shape light, framing and rhythm so that what you see is also something you feel.
My work focuses on documentary and video journalism. I also create branded content, on-set stills photography and editorial portraits. I work with institutions, companies, NGOs, agencies and media outlets.
I hold a degree in Humanities and a postgraduate diploma in Photojournalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). In 2011–12 I studied on a scholarship in the international Visual Storytelling and Photojournalism programme at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. I am currently studying for the Master’s in Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra University.
In 2008 I co-founded Piel de Foto, a documentary photography collective and magazine, where I was co-photo editor, editor-in-chief and filmmaker until 2012.
